Go read the LN, even the manga missed a whole bunch of stuff.

Yea, I was already disappointed 1/4 into the first episode. In the manga, though short, it was explained that Eru had always been very lifeless. Like he was missing something. And then he saw a robot on patrol and became and excited and energetic child. But in the anime he's saved by his father in a robot while on the way back home. Also while he's kinda short in the manga, it's never actually said he's smaller than other children. Yet in the anime they blatantly say so.
I stopped watching after that, quickly losing interest. But decided to start watching it again. If only to hopefully see some cool scenes from the manga animated.

Its the same thing as Random House. Thats what happens when publishing houses of various media converge together to control content. It doesnt matter if the anime generates no profit since they can make it back with other revenues. Thats why there are almost no anime only stories or anime inspired content any more. Its fine if the anime is no good, since they never expected it to generate much TV ad revenue, so as long as the anime made enough splash to get people talking, then its fine.
I came here after the first episode of the anime and let me tell you, what the fuck are they doing with the anime? They literally skipped out the explanations of the whole robot and completely threw that son of a bitch who fought with kid to the trashcan and didn't put it in the anime, they also skipped so many parts i actually thought they were making a whole new plot, the manga is so so so so much better, i'm still gonna watch the anime though for the sole purpose of watching my cute eru! ≧∇≦
