I don't think it's a weak writing tho, it's more like of a soft sailing manhwa, where there is not much toxicity that every manhwa have and not much tense . Because first of all, none of the panel said that the duchess of florence gave birth to the crown prince. It only said that the duchess was SA by the emperor and the emperor thought rubellian is his child too. The empress was called a duchess because of probably 1 reason, there is no duke to lead the dukedom of colika but the empress. So she still held the title the duchess. And being a duchess i think is a way to tell the kingdom that she is the dukedom of colika and the empress. And another reason is the mistranslation which happened ALL THE TIME. And as you say "she was supposed to be a smart person" which is a nice way to tell that one had a standard and not anyone should marry somebody. I understand that you might think "if she wants to survive why not marry random man?" A woman with beautiful face, brains, and money should know her own value, it just happened that she knew her own and her father did too. Because as what we all know when she got rejected by the crown prince months later her father contacted the duke of florence to have a negotiation, but she managed to hide and stay away from the duke by acting all weak and sickly and no weak woman or sickly woman should be seen outside flirting right? And if she married rando man and got divorced her value will went downhill. So she doesn't just married ANY OTHER MAN. You get what i mean?

i might be late for thus comment since someone had explained it too you but i just think that you might've misunderstood while reading this manhwa
1.if the duchess gave birth to both ML and the crown prince, then why in the world is the empress on the crown prince's side?
2. Is it the translation or why is the empress called duchess and is always referred to the house of califa (or whatever the name is)?
3. FIVE WHOLE YEARS were spent before the original began and you seriously thought to go after the CROWN PRINCE who ALREADY had a fiance and who was the original ML? Bro what was in your head?! You even had lots of other people confessing to you and yet you, A COMMONER, wanted to try your hand at marrying the crown prince.---------------------- why? Simply because you're beautiful? You just had to get married, not become the mom of the nation.
4. Weren't you supposed to be intelligent or smth? Still can't get over the fact that after another two years since the failed proposal you didn't do a thing to improve your situation. Plus, when you first entered the palace, right before the wedding, why did you act surprised at the servants looking at you funny, saying stupid stuff like "oh, the rumors got here too, eventually"--- BRO IT'S BEEN LITERAL YEARS WDYM-- THIS IS SO OLD NEWS it's baffling
5. The conflicts till now feel a little forced. The one at the tea party was kind of ok, but the secret gathering is just garbage, no offence. Nonsensical violence, maybe the translation is not up to par, but it's starting to annoy me enough to drop this with what's been happening till now.
6. The ML is... Idk what he's supposed to be doing. Not much of an opinion regarding him which is kind of sad. The art style is nice and he(the ML)'s really nice to look at, but if that's all there is to this story, then not even this is going to help me keep reading it.
It's really sad seeing a beautiful manhwa get trashed because of the weak writing. I sincerely hope it'll get better, but I'll have to read and see.
