haven’t you seen how extremely bigoted richieliue is? even from the last chapter of season 2 when shuri confronted the cardinal… the cardinal didn’t offer any help when he wrongfully accused the neuschwastein of incest.

he lives inside his own mind where he believes EVERYTHING he does is holy, is just. he lives by HIS own principle and that does not separate himself from the other cardinals and the corrupt religious clergies who participate in unsavory acts.

you cannot say that he is simply “dismantling the corrupt from behind the scenes” cause he lives by the idea that he is ABOVE everyone else, that is, all his actions are justified, no matter how twisted his actions are.

the way shuri died from her last life? yeah. richeliue ordered shuri’s body to be so deformed that it won’t be doubted that the culprits were safavid bandits. i suggest you reread it cause you see, richeliue covets shuri… has been coveting her since the past life. he couldn’t grasp how, even in shuri’s past life, shuri could dodge the church’s attempt at overpowering the imperial family within the empire. he was obsessed then, and he is still obsessed now. he covets her and HE HATES it. he adapts the mindset that if “i cant have her, then nobody will.” cause you see the pattern of him instigating shuri’s downfall? all of them lead to shuri being isolated within the monastery.

Hes literally a misogynist and someone who literally dont want to recognize his feelings for shuri due to his adamant believe with his religion. He literally sees shuri as a temptress and he thinks that God will forgive him because Shuri is the source of everyone's 'sin'.
