I don’t know. I feel sort of sorry for him. He never really had a chance in life did he? A neglectful father and a manipulative toxic mother? Did the guy even had a chance?

    Same
I too have started to feel bad for the for the prince(Astana). Kind of felt he always wanted love and friendship but couldn't convey properly or receive due his mother and her upbringing. Always felt he wasn't that bad to core.
Damn these authors always giving a sorry feeling for the some villains which neither makes me hate them completely nor support their stupidity. (๑•ㅂ•)و✧

Agreed. She raised him to be a useless puppet. What if something happens to her? He won’t have any idea what to do.

the Empress is such a cool villain, why couldn’t she teach her son how to be one, instead of being more like his uncle (a mere puppet)

I've read the novel even though she didn't show it like normal mother's would. She loves Astana. Astana on the other hand... (sigh) Let's just say she fed a dog that would bite her. An ungrateful brat till the end.

I feel like it was because she was surrounded by ignorant/ “useless” men in her life who were essentially handed everything in their life because they were men. But instead of raising Astana to be a cunning woman like her she raised him to be a man like all the other men in her life. Maybe it was control, maybe it was oversight, maybe it’s because no matter what she did he would’ve been fine in society regardless of her actions.
