Its korean culture, japanese too but not as bad as korean. Korea and drinking are deeply intertwined.
I've met a lott of koreans move to Australia because they dont like drinking culture in their own country. I have yet hearing this from japanese or Chinese who flee their own country because of drinking LOL

Yes this is somewhat true. Some work places do this esp if they have a lot of boomers in their company. These boomers just want you to drink and entertain them.
