I hate guideverse with a burning passion, not because of the actual premise itself, but because it has the PERFECT set up for an action/hunterverse BL and the ENTIRE SETTING is about monsters and dungeons etc., only for authors to never expand on that point of the setting and just write a regular ass BL where they never mention the monsters again after the exposition, and the MC is just sexually exploited and taken advantage of, like okay </3
Like, at least a decent amount of Omegaverse works actually have a talk about the discrimination omega's face, and issues with the patriarchy etc., but every guideverse I've read never touch on the fact the guide industry is heavy on, and profits off the sexual exploitation of its guides and is basically just legal prostitution??
Like how omegaverse is often used as an allegory for misogyny, guideverse genuinely and unironically can be used as an allegory for sex work.
Like idk man. Can you REALLY consent to sex when the guy pressuring you into doing it can beat a monster 3x his size into the ground with his bare fists, and you're in a private, sound-proof room with NO PANIC BUTTON??
Idk, I just feel like the genre is just under-utilised and that's why I don't like it. There's an opportunity to explore a lot of unique storylines and commentary but every author just wants to write the same copy-paste sweet, innocent, young bottom x Rich Alpha CEO mafia boss, and it's pissing me tf off; rant over idc call me woke <//3
