Dick = nickname for Richard. It's definitely more common in older generations. Same with names like Gertrude and Bernice
If it's for Richard then it should be Rick or anything similar? But 'Dick' is too funny
Thats what I think, but it's the same way people named Robert go by Bob instead of Rob it was a trend during the Middle Ages to have rhyming nicknames
