you are correct on all levels! this (about to be a) sex scene is NOT in the novel at all. reverse guiding does get mentioned and briefly occur late in the story, but the manhwa has completely twisted what it is (it’s when the esper forcibly takes guiding energy, not that the guide has an overflow of energy. i don’t know much abt guideverse but i don’t think that’s a thing. guides don’t overflow bc their guiding energy is from their normal energy stores. they’re just normal people.) and the fact they’re throwing in a sex scene for emergency guiding purposes this early in a way that twists the story considering the scene you referred to… it’s pretty icky LOL like yoogyeol is distraught at the idea of taking advantage of joonmin even if it’s treated entirely as an emergency medical procedure both by the setting/worldbuilding and by joonmin himself. they don’t count it when they do have sex in the extras (they don’t sleep together at all during the course of the main story). this is probably going to just be treated like a normal sex scene which is very odd considering the lack of sex and the tone of things in the novel

I thought the reverse guiding mention was weird as well. That has always been either when an esper forcibly takes a guide’s energy or when an esper might accidentally keep drawing guiding energy past where the guide should stop (both potentially resulting in the guide will being hurt or dying). It’s never ever been a buildup of guiding energy just chilling like a backed up drain because something was blocking the guide from helping an esper properly. That would normally just result in nothing happening. Guide energy doesn’t “build up” like an esper’s does. Thats… the whole point
Either the writers for this fucked up or the translation team did.

it’s the writers of the adaptation who fucked up i fear, this entire situation with the shoehorned Reverse Guiding Sex Scene isn’t in the novel at all </3 in the novel yoogyeol nearly dies from how much he was beaten down by the esper and how much of his energy guiding took, and he ends up stuck in the hospital for an extended period because he’s in horrible shape. it’s really rough lol

MC is the guide and ML is the esper.
Spoiler for who space hyung is:
It’s the MC. Though idk yet how that happens, presumably time fuckery, as I haven’t read the novel. I just saw a review somewhere that had that info in the summary so I’ve been reading this entire time wondering when the ML was going to figure out that his space hyung had actually been his temporary guide this whole time lol
I didn’t finish the novel lol cuz I’m lazy but there’s a lot of differences, and for the worse

I think the most egregious example would be what is coming after this chapter, when the esper needs to give the guide reverse guiding via sex, which I’m like entirely sure didn’t happen in the novel. This is important because it is revealed that ML was nearly sexually assaulted as a minor by an older guide, which is part of his trauma. Later on, MC has to give mucosal guiding to the ML to save his life, but it’s portrayed in a way where he’s like “I gotta do this to save his life, but I am betraying his trust in the process” and despite his growing feelings for the ML, he accepts that the ML might not want to even see him anymore. It’s not sexy, it’s just “I put it in and cried because I felt so bad and wrong and horrible. Please wake up, it’s okay if you hate me after this.” Ofc, it all works out in the end, but having the ML and MC have sex so soon instead of later on, it really ruins everything.
Might be wrong here but the MC also never showed his feelings this blatantly in the novel. It was more subdued until later.
Also the scene where the MC was guiding the esper with the family was a lot more dramatic and a lot longer. Like MC was dying, not just from excess guiding levels, but his body was breaking down at a visible level.
