A character dont have to be dominant to assert dominance… he was a straight male police officer, and if thats not self-explanatory enough, he chose that method because that was the method mc knew very well from being freshly out of prison and he needs that kind of control over mc at that time. It made sense although it didnt necessarily redeem his action.
