I’m sorry for his younger self, his past reminds me of my own childhood. I still don’t walk around and do mental and physical abuse nor grape people.

I like redemption but the idea that some actions are redeemable by being nicer to ONE of your abuse victims or due to having a “hard” time is downplaying the IRL problems that are caused by such abused, he scarred a hand full of people with this behavior.

I’m still invested in this story, the MC has suffered so much and I feel very bad for him, so I’d like to see how things get better for him, but IRL, I would tell him to run away and keep his distance because men like the main lover constantly stalk, abuse and later on KILL their partners IRL.

So let’s not glorify him for being hot. Cause I know girls IRL, that read Yaoi and think what ever is happening here is normal

Tbh redemption arc is a need cause only in fiction can we see a character that has gone through so much trauma to beg and do anything to get back together with the lover which doesn't happen irl so it's fun to see it and haters ruins the fun..

Yes, I am aware that it is fictional, so I always distinguish between fiction and reality. It is still a fact that people are influenced by fiction who consume them. Pedophiles are more likely to rape children when they have consumed media that represent such things (even fictional scenarios), men normalize abuse in their heads when they have consumed pornography with rape, and I know girls in real life who have dated guys with anger problems and think they can fix it because the consumption of a certain type of media affects you, so I'm just saying that girls IRL have to be careful and run away immediately no matter how hot the guy seems. No one would be SO defensive towards the ML if he was an ugly fat guy, it's honestly disgusting that people's brains work like that. However, you should read studies and statistics on the topic of media and how they have and still have influenced society.

Do you have a source explaining the link between consuming fictional stories of abuse/rape/etc & how it correlates to becoming a pedo/grapist/etc. People always say this but I can’t find any studies that illustrate this.

I’d be fascinated to read about it since fiction doesn’t effect anyone I know like that. They used to say violent video games were responsible for school shootings, but of course that wasn’t true, & it was down to mental health or personality disorders.

So, I always see people say that consuming these stories causes people to believe these scenarios are okay in real life. Can someone tell me what studies this info is coming from?

I want to read about the psychology on it. TIA

i have also seen girls date a ass with toxic behavior even seen Stockholm syndrome victims irl my neighbour sis but i can sure say they aren’t affected by the fiction..those pedo won’t be reading a gay story but must be somewhere reading those porn story..i do agree that girls irl should be defensive but i still like this story i think story are written from what the author experienced, sees or even been influenced upon and we can be the judge and not be influenced by ourselves..idk why most people thinks we will be influenced by fiction and i would be defensive for any character until i see the full story since i am a novel reader as well..the problem is overhyping everything..if anyone wants to be a better person they can stop hating everything…but you do have some points tho lol

So, I’ve prepared serval meta analysis, that prove my point, such correlation don’t exist for video games, that’s true, but for other type of abuse, it does happen. You don’t know people who are influenced by it because people are more likely to mask their unconventional beliefs or the consumption of child porn or rape porn. And they will also mask such crimes, when they’re committed. I know a rapist, because I’ve dated him but his whole environment could not imagine him doing stuff like this, they have no clue, they mask their issues.

    For people who consume child-porn:
Meta-analytic and empirical studies indicate that individuals who consume child sexual abuse material (CSAM) have a significantly higher likelihood of committing contact sexual offenses against children compared to the general population; for example, Seto, Hanson, and Babchishin (2011) found that approximately 12% of online offenders had prior contact offenses and 4.6% committed new contact offenses during follow-up, while self-report studies reveal rates as high as 50%. (Seto et al., 2011; Babchishin et al., 2015; Endrass et al., 2009)

People that consume rape / violent porn:
Empirical research demonstrates that consumption of violent pornography, especially depictions of rape or sexual coercion, is significantly associated with increased acceptance of rape myths, reduced empathy toward victims, and a higher likelihood of sexually aggressive behavior; meta-analyses and longitudinal studies confirm that this effect is stronger than for non-violent pornography, is partially mediated by attitudinal changes, and interacts with predisposing factors such as hostile masculinity (Hald, Malamuth & Yuen, 2010; Malamuth, Addison & Koss, 2000; Donnerstein & Berkowitz, 1981; Marshall, 1988; Kingston et al., 2008).

    Dark romance:
Empirical research indicates that regular or excessive consumption of sexualized violence in media, including “Dark Romance” novels, is associated with greater acceptance of controlling or aggressive behaviors in relationships, internalization of traditional gender roles, and altered expectations about partner dominance; these effects are primarily attitudinal and normative rather than directly leading to violent behavior, and are moderated by factors such as age, prior relationship experiences, and media literacy (Vandenbosch & Eggermont, 2012; Burkett & Hamilton, 2012; Friedrich et al., 2020).

You can read my other replies but there is strong scientific evidence that romance stories that depict violence, rape, domination and other forms of physical and mental abuse increase the likelihood of committing and OR accepting such actions toward themselves. These stories literally romanticize a violent partner, they don’t show how bad it actually is or realistic scenarios where someone would escape and end contact. I don’t think that all people are stupid lol, but it’s actually quite healthy to always have people in comment sections or other platforms who constructively criticize certain tropes and behavior patterns in fiction / manga / romance. There are literally a bunch of gay men in media that are very critical of this stuff, it’s absolutely justified and I don’t get why people would like to silence that. You don’t have to listen but let others who might not know better and who subconsciously accept this stuff also IRL get educated about this.
