Just saw that comment. It sounds like extreme projection and bias.
Ian see Jo so much more emotionally and if you notice, in the chapter, Ian says he doesn't deserve someone like Jo but devalues himself that he deserves everything bad. Some need take that in because he's basically saying being with tj is what he deserves (in negative notions, nothing positive).
Ian isn’t used to this, so he is even questioning if he is deserving. So sad, I hope he knows he deserves every bit of it.

I can't with people saying lan sees jo as a bland person and that's why he always goes to Tj like get where your coming from but If he was really bland and boring im pretty sure lan would have actually let him go from the beginning plus they have issues and its not like he wants to go back to tj
