No it is from excessive drinking. When the old man found him, he could remember but he was traumatized by it and was having a panic attack. So, instead of helping him process it (which is hard even for professionals), he said he doesn't have to remember it, and shared his alcohol.
Bruh it literally shows him falling and getting a head injury and he got amnesia from that and he started drinking afterward.
Most cases of amnesia caused by head injuries don't last long-term, but because he drowned in alcohol to keep from remembering at all, it altered his brain to where he was pretty much unable to recall his memories. If he hadn't started drinking his amnesia would likely go away, but because he became an alcoholic it didn't. That's what I was trying to say, maybe it didn't come off right.
