I don't remember about the politics of Korea but from what I understand, dad was a sympathizer towards a certain political group. I don't think it was anything bad but it was a big deal at the time. It wasn't know to a lot of people but somebody told on him and I think he was arrested. Then step-mom and her fam stole stuff that was rightfully the mom's and just sent her off to somewhere else. Mom's got a lot of trauma coz of just bad stuff that happened. She doesn't want revenge tho or is maybe hoping to just put it past her.

I felt like it was saying he was reported by the step mom and fam so they could steal stuff. Like they made a false report to frame him and take the inheritance and she ran away but maybe I misunderstood too. It was confusing
Yeah it was actually heavily implied the step-fam did it. Coz other than them, nobody else knew. The audacity to turn the dad in, steal MC's mom's rightful stuff, and then practically kick her out is just gross and downright inhumane.
From what I understand her dad was just a normal nice guy. The problem is at the time you had the Korean war due to tensions between the divided north and south. It’s implied that his 2nd wife (MC’s mother’s step mother and siblings) reported him as a communist/traitor/supporter of the north. So he was taken away, so they could inherit (steal) everything.
