I don't think it's self pity, but moreso a genuine struggle with himself. He seems way too emotionally unstable to be getting into a relationship, if this kind of loneliness got to him like that and he couldn't confide about it with his partner... so, he self sabotaged. Not that it takes away any of his blame or makes him any less of a scumbag, but at the very least he wasn't just playing around for the fun of it.

Huh?? I mean, isn't self pity about... feeling pitiful for yourself?? The whole "woe is me" thing? He's not exactly feeling any pity for himself here, he's just lonely and self sabotaging. The fact he's sad bc he's lonely doesn't necessarily mean he's pitying himself
Cheating wrapped up in self pity ... I don't like that , aspecially if you claim you loved person and still hurt them , brake up and sleep around later on of you doing want them anymore..... I just don't like the self pity
