So many things on my mind

Things I don't understand

1. In queer romance why is pseudo-incest glorified. Its so common, I dont understand and the only reason people don't care is because they aren't blood related.

2. Why do people hate characters like Joo Jaekyung but than love characters like Zhenya, Ceaser and Sangwoo

3.Expecting the uke to like the seme, because the seme is in love with him, especially in friends to lovers trope. I forgot the name but the seme has the uke blindfolded and before he grapes him, he takes the blindfold off and then he keeps forcing the uke and eventually the uke starts liking him..WEIRD!!!

4. Why women are written so badly in BL

5. Ukes getting slut shamed, like he's not even dating the seme..he can sleep.sith who he wants, he doesnt owe the seme loyalty.

6. The obsession with love triangles in asian media, im not at all sayinh it doesnt apply to any other continents but Ive noticed how popular it is in kdramas, manhwas, manga ect.

7. Staying together because of a kid..for once I wanna see the uke leave the biological father and end up with someone else..

Oh, I understand the kind of phase you’re going through. It also happened to me. There was a time when I kept questioning things and started disliking BL, GL, and romance in general, because the topics I didn’t like kept showing up all the time in them. I kept wondering, “Why is it always like this?” For example, I used to read almost every series that had romance in it. But now, my interest in any romance focused series (whether BL, GL, or BG) has dropped a lot. I only keep up with one or two series from before, and I’ve shifted more toward story-driven ones.

Unfortunately, the way romance (or other things you said) is portrayed in manga doesn’t really change even after years; most works still lean that way. But once in a while, you do come across series where those elements aren’t there, or where they’re handled much better. In the end, manga exists for us to have an enjoyable time, so instead of sticking with topics you don’t like, you can just focus on finding the ones you do enjoy.

After all, there are still some truly amazing series coming out, even if only a few.

Yeah I always make sure to avoid tropes I dont like, its just more difficult for me.because I hate a lot of the most common tropes, so its harder to find what I like and when I do come across a good manhwa its wither never updated regularly or its dropped.

For #1 it’s not just queer romance. A lot of those harem type anime’s have a stepsis/or actual sister love interests. I think it’s the forbidden aspect of it. Essentially fetish stuff

I am already aware of that, but I have also been reading more queer manhwa. Discussing one facet of something does not imply that I am excluding another; if that were the case, I would have stated, "but it does not exist in non-queer romance."

    1. Unfortunately it extends beyond queer romances. For a time, the step brother-step sister trope was so popular in the romace genre

    2. The thing is they're all red/black flags but personally, I think it's just the way Jaekyung is written. Idk how to explain it but he doesn't have the charisma nor humor some of these characs do and that's what makes them "tolerable". Like Taeju from Lowtide Twilight is beloved by the fandom despite his behavior early chapters but then he actually has a personality so when the charac development happened, it wasn't hard to love him. Also Sangwoo and Killing Stalking in general is well written. Like many hated him but many also felt bad for his backstory.

    4. I personally haven't read ones that would make me agree with this one but I imagine that the author sucks in general in creating characs if that's the case.

    6. Love triangles are commonly use to stir drama in the story but yeah most aren't even well written.

    2. Everyone has personality. You cant say someone lacks personality that doesnt make sense, because people say that but what does it actually mean?

    4. Which ones have you read where the woman is written well, Ive always seem to come across ones where the woman is the jealous ex, or just a villian or the wife or fiance that gets cheated on.

    6. Yeah, its the most annoying trope, I hate when authors use a secondead as a catalyst for the main couple.

    2. Oh wait maybe I should've been more specific what I mean is that people don't like a "boring" personality. Characs like Zhenya, Cesar & Sangwoo actually offers complexity. I've seen novel readers of Codename Anastasia have threads explaining Zhenya, it's actually crazy XD also author is still working on Jaekyung's backstory so what other things does he have to offer than his pretty face

    4. The ex-girlfriend of the MC in The Nerd Project is actually well-written imo. What she did was wrong but she's also not comically evil. Also the mother in Smyrna & Capri is great and supportive of the MCs. There's also the girl bestfriends of the MCs in Heesu in Class 2 and Dasadanan. For now, these are what I can recall

Okay, it’s there for the same reason. Fetish for forbidden romance without going all the way with having them be blood related.

#2 - I don’t know enough about this one. People are just way too outspoken about jinx because it is ongoing and very popular so the criticism towards jk looks louder.

3 - no idea what u are on about but you can spell out rape on here.

4 - the men aren’t written that well in BL too lol. Women are just not the focus and are kinda just used as obstacles most of the time

    5 - I agree with you.

6 - probably because being wanted by 2 people is good for conflict.

7 - haven’t seen this, is it for omegaverse?

I dont think no.3 is that hard to understand but okay I will try to simplify. Im saying if the uke already likes someone else or is dating someone else, when the seme likes him, the uke is forced to like the seme back, and this is usually done by the seme constantly forcing himself on the uke, until the uke gives in. Another one is readers expecting the uke to be loyal to the seme, when they aren't even in a relationship.

This is actually the reason why I started reading novels instead of BL-GL webtoons and manga. Because almost every series has at least one or two things I don’t like. I could go on and on about it... But after reading the good BL-GL novels, even they started to have the same issues that mangas and webtoons do. Now I can’t easily find the kind of novels I enjoy anymore. In the past few months, I’ve started dozens of novels, but I always ended up dropping them because there was something I didn’t like. I only managed to finish about three novels to the end. Yet, when I first discovered novels, I used to read anything that came my way, just like with manga and webtoons. Unfortunately, this is an endless cycle, my friend.
