I do have a question of my very own addressed to anyone who reads this. (cutekitten, I know you might be busy with your censorship research so feel free to ignore this one.) Why do some people complain about being oppressed simply because someone disagrees with them? Hypothetically, I heard this from a friend, but let's say someone ranted about something on an open forum, I responded with a liiiiitle bit of sarcasm, suddenly "someone" concocted a whole drama in which I'm Ursula and they're Ariel. It's a little weird, right?

You don't have to argue with everyone you see online. It's not healthy. When you see something you disagree with you can just move on. You don't have to start a fight. You don't have to go make personal attacks. You don't have to act like a complete fucking degenerate dumb shit.
I'll answer your first question though.
Placeholders are used because uploaders are arrogant idiots who are obsessed with getting credit for uploading stolen illegal manhwa. They don't want anyone else or the bots the site uses to upload before they have the chance because they think having their name on it makes them look good. It doesn't. It just gives them more legal liability.

Yeah, Icarus works incredibly hard finding pictures of children being raped by adults so they can put them in manhwa that don't even have children in them at all as jump scares. That's a sad way to twist the use of placeholders. They're used so the uploader can hold the place to upload the official translations, the ones using placeholders are the ones giving the good translated chapters. It's not a problem for most of us, I prefer a holder and a day after the good translation to get cocomic translations and getting the good translations mixed with the bad ones. If you check, the ones that use holders have the chapters in order, the ones that don't use them can have like 3 different translations for the same chapter all together, it's reading chapter 10 and when you go to 11 you get bad translations instead of the ones you've been reading. Then you talk about "legal liability" when you're here reading illegally, if you really cared about legality you would report the site instead of reading and complaining. Also, the placeholders are not ill intended like you make it sound, there are some uploaders out there posting cocomic chapters with 90% of blurred panels, that is ill intended and something I complain about, a lot. Placeholders are just a way for uploaders to keep the order on their uploads and a way to ensure their uploads do not get mixed with bad translations, that's all.
Of course your opinion is valid, but you're just making it sound like uploders are the worst when they're just providing us free content.
This weird obsession with placeholders is stupid. Now we have chapter 12 without chapters 10 and 11.
Is this supposed to be a good experience for us? Is this supposed to be helpful for the readers? Is this supposed to be good for the website? This is just going to drive readers to other websites.
