literally no empathy you got there, everyone copes different with trauma. obviously. and having this routine was his own coping mechanism. so he doesn’t get nightmares about his abusive dead

Because empathy isn't selective...

We can understand and empathize with how someone became the way they are and why they act the way they do bc yes all emotions and traumas are valid, but that’s not to say all actions are valid. My empathy stops at when they inflict pain onto others especially when they inflict pain onto innocent individuals. I have no beef if he killed or tortured his dad, but raping and being abusive to people who care about him bc he refuses to address and process his trauma? That’s a big no no. Also I wouldn’t really care if someone found out having sex helps them cope with their trauma, and in actuality I’d be pretty happy for them bc they finally found smt that worked for them, but he’s an asshole who doesn’t respect consent and enjoys inflicting pain onto others, so why should i have empathy for him when he’s just continuing the cycle of abuse? We can call him out for being trash whilst still being understanding of his past. He should still be held accountable for his actions. Not all abused kids turn out to be abusive assholes

Like i knew but wowwwww” if that makes it any better. I was more marveling at how he completely avoided emotionally confronting his trauma in really round about ways of coping.

Empathy is to truly understand and feel the same way as another. I think you actually sympathize him bc I don’t think you’d be a horrible person as to feel the desire to rape and abuse others the same way he did just to make urself feel better. It’s a level of disregard and disrespect for other humans that I don’t think any healthy individual should truly understand and feel. Empathy should be selective, but sympathy is up to u to decide who you give your time and heart to feel for, not feel with.
