i don’t see it that way. the schultz family was never originally shown to have “enjoyed killing”, that is just the ‘gift’ they had and were used as executioners. that’s also why the brother’s friend(i’m blanking on her name rn) was trying to help fix that. jonak is seen to be good at hunting and killing sea monsters, when the average human wouldn’t be able to, that’s what correlates to the gift of Schultz. he says he doesn’t know how to cut the pregnant woman, but then he’s able to do it fine. it might not be, but it’s only a theory.
