A father can lie to there kid. My dad always told me he loved me when he saw me. But his actions said otherwise. I think it's the same for him. I think at first he truly hated that child and resented him and maybe over time that resentment has faded but I still think he does not like him.
I agree. It‘s like the king feels the need love his son. not because he genuinely does but because it‘s his obligation as a father. his portrayed „love“ so far felt way too shallow imo.

It could also be that he legitimately believes he loves his child but was only shown one way how to show that love and thats what he did to his son. In which cause considering hiw many side characters have commented how alike richard is to his father, i wonder if Richard will treat any potential child he and Courtney have similarly as he himself was treated.
