It undoubtedly was rape. Technically.
If it's rape to have sex with someone when they're blacked out due to drugs or alcohol that it's also rape to have sex with somebody when they're blacked out due to mental illness. Technically.
Technically is the keyword here because ultimately the victim gets to decide if they were raped or not. Plenty of people enjoy getting drunk and having sex with their partners. Plenty of people will get blackout drunk, have sex with their partners, and be totally cool with it.
That doesn't mean you aren't allowed to feel traumatized and then move past it. The esper clearly felt traumatized about the physical escalation of their relationship but he chose to move past it because he wanted the relationship. You can see him still working through it in this chapter.
I'm so frustrated with this guide. His esper went through a traumatic event. He didn't just lose his memories, he had essentially a alter ego driving his body like he was a puppet. He had no way to consent to anything that happened him!
Then they brought him back by exposing him to the most traumatic thing they could think of.
Now he has to hear about what the person puppeting his body did for months while he was essentially unconscious.
It's going to take time to adjust to that. It's not something that you wake up and you "go oh well I guess I was in a relationship I'll just continue".
The fact that the guide and the comments haven't realized how tough this is for the esper and our only worried about the guide shows how twisted the yaoi community is. Just because someone is a top doesn't mean they're not a human and they don't deserve empathy.
