That's how he was manipulated into staying at war, and whenever he tried to bring Beaty back, the aunt would spin tales of her being frail and shit. That's why he was adamant of sending her back, because his wife's death was also spun to make him feel guilty.
So like...while he was frustrating at first, it was definitely not his fault she lived and died like that. It was not her fault either, but the people using and manipulating them from behind.
In the first life the mother died and Beaty spent another decade being abused hit starved and be engaged to the second prince without ever seeing her father. Not like the father is the worst there is worse than him he is just not good and SOOO stupid its craaazy no wonder Beaty also seems stupid (even the name is dumb)
Like I know you try to defend it for the sake of the story but the harsh truth is that the author just sucks and couldn’t find a dumber reason to make readers go 'Beaty's life is so easy now but it was so so difficult in that first life'
