He’s not. He should have told his brother what happened. His brother is the one who is the responsible adult here so he shouldn’t have listened to his dad.

Ppl just say things without thinking of character circumstances. If the ml and his brother were swapped the ml would have reacted the same way. Ignoring and self-deprecation until it’s too late. He needed to be saved, it’s a major theme of the story. Now add that his brother is physically disabled (in bed and needs to be cared for), a minor whose father brings prostitutes home, stuck at home, and no access to a cell phone. The person who beat your HUGE brother to the point of submission is now telling you to not say anything. This kid needs to protect himself and diluting yourself to think only you are the problem is a common way. Notice how the ml has yet to actually blame his father for how he behaves and focuses on hating himself.

My dude I grew up under two abusive parents who both told me to keep secrets but I still reached out to a trusted adult who was actually trying to help me. It took a while to reach out but I did it anyway and that’s after seeing the kind of shit both of my parents pulled with no consequences. Even CPS came and did nothing and I still knew it was important to let a trusted adult know what’s going on. I’m saying what I’m saying from the PoV of someone who’s been there and from the PoV of somehow who is now the adult safeguarding other minors in my family. I’m not blaming them for being in the situation he’s in or for not stopping the father. I’m saying he should have told his brother.
