It follows properly but kiss and sex scenes are censored (they have an uncesored versions too though you can find them easily), also there are some scenes that they have cutted not too much but you should really read the novel when you have time cause its the most detailed one
When it comes to adaptation, I'd say the manhua is the 2nd closest in the novel, first is the audiobook. The CDrama not only changed most of the novel plot but also censored the relationship between Lan Zhan and Wei Ying. So I'd say read it now lol
