Yess exactly my thoughts! In the otomo game they both fell for MC before meeting each other and with the hierarchy system it would've been extremely forced. But now that they have another chance in modern world and their feelings for MC are not well established yet it could be a very natural, subtle transition of interest
Kael needs to get with Cedric with Kael topping and Cedric bottoming. This is the best ending for both of them because I doubt they are going to break up the main couple and they both deserve someone super sweet and nice and both of them share traits of the main character that they are interested in.
