Can someone explain to me the necklace trauma? And what letters is the mom talking about?
Also did Shuri ran to her mother after she got abused by her ex husband?
Is the panel where Shuri and and the mother is wearing all black is from this timeline or in the other timeline where Shuri died? Also is that the ex husband’s funeral?
I’m just confused (/TДT)/

Before the death of her ex husband, Shuri received a necklace and love letter from an anonymous sender. In a flashback Shuri had, we saw that she didn’t know what to do with the letter and hid it in her drawer. Unfortunately her husband found it and got extremely angry at Shuri. He didn’t did not give her a chance to explain and instead locked her in a dark room for an ann unknown amount of time. Shuri only got out bc the ex husband collapsed on the floor bc of his illness, I think that day was close to his death or triggered the last health episode that eventually lead to his death. So this event was traumatizing to Shuri in multiple ways.

Now in this trial, Shuri and the readers are realizing she locked away the memory of her confiding in her mother about how to handle the situation. So know the mother is providing “proof” that Shuri was not loyal in her marriage so she probably wasn’t taking care of the kids out of respect or love for her husband. Or just proving that she is capable of cheating or doing smth taboo

Honestly it’s insane they are using this as evidence bc Shuri was 14/15 years old country bumpkin who didn’t know how to handle the situation

    NOVEL SPOILER WARNING !!!!!

Shuri received a necklace from a man when she was young. Her husband then thought that she was having an affair and because of that he abused her (I forgot the details of the abuse but i think he trapped her inside a dark room for a few days?). She got out and ran away to go to her mother to find comfort and help. Shuri told her mom what happened and asked her if she can stay at their home and not go back to her husband. Her mother turned her down and basically said that shuri has to go back to her house

PS. I read the novel a long time ago so i’m not sure about the details but that’s the gist of it(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

I could be wrong, but I remember it being heavily implied that she was physically abused to some level as well. And that’s why on his death bed he tells her that she never had to forgive him. He knows his actions in choosing her weren’t as noble as just wanting someone to watch his kids, it was very much driven by who Shuri reminded him of. Ultimately he wasn’t a good man.

none of this is spoilers bc it is already been discussed in the Manhwa. I am slightly confused as well, but I am thinking we don't have a full picture of what happened that night when the necklace was found bc Shuli having repressed those memories is an unreliable narrator.

First of all, the two timelines are exactly the same up until Johannes' funeral. Every experience from the "first timeline" before his death is the same in this timeline. Its just everything after the fact is different.

Now, this is what the Manhwa says about the Necklace: This is around chapter 100, when Shuli's sleepwalking is discussed. Basically, Shuli received a necklace in a box strikingly similar to the one the crown prince gave her (except this one was with white gems). This necklace was also accompanied by a letter that expressed pity that she was in a loveless marriage and even mentions affection. (word for word shuli is like "why does it mention affection") Shuli hides the necklace and box bc she doesnt know what to do with it. She goes to the opera with Everette (the female knight) and comes back and passes Duke Nurenburg leaving the estate (thats why he was also shocked to hear mention of the necklace in this chapter. bc Johan and the duke discussed this.) Anyways, the manhwa depicts it as Johan getting mad at Shuri for "betraying" him as he is confusing Shuri with Ludovica the mother of the crown prince and like his lover, their relationship is also described at the end of season two i belieeve.) From what we see he grabs her, yells at her, and locks her in a room. but the SFX say "thump" many times. So it very much implies something happened. note its also storming outside. Anyways, as Shuri is crying to Johan she sees blood from under the doorframe and realizes Johan is like dying so she calls for help form the maids and butlers. Commotion galore. After crying to the butler hes like "you have to step up blabla bla" and she puts her memories in a metaphoric box. The next scene is of Johan waking up, she is all nice to him and shows him the letter she wrote about how grateful she was to be there. This is all according to the Manhwa and what has already been shown to us, which is from the perspective of Shuli, the unreliable narrator.

I believe Shuli ran away sometime between the incident and before Johan died. Her mother knew about the necklace and letter, and claimed it happened on 1115. Jeremy was 14 when johan died and i remember somewhere ir saying he was born on 1101, so the year matches up perfectly, to that night. furthermore, the kids were unaware she ran away, so it had to have been when they were sent away to another house when Johan was actually dying.

now the topic of abuse is contended, bc one could argue Shuli was mentally abused by Johan, bc she had to step up into the role of a mother, and that she was scared of him, like that scene when she messes up with the silverware while eating. One could argue this fear comes from actual physical abuse or mental abuse. either way they are both forms of abuse.

Hopefully that helps with some of the confusion.

*NOVEL SPOILER* Nora and Jeremy go to her parents estate and speak to a maid who claims to have seen bruises on shuli. (is the general consensus i hear from novel readers, I haven't read it) *END SPOILER*
