I just don’t understand

I think Sol needs to help Ian the way Brian helped Sol. It’s like in this new life, it’s not Brian that builds Sol and teaches him love, trust, support and loyalty. Sol has to help Ian grow. And we have seen this approach work for Ian. Every time Sol is caring and gentle with him, Ian grows a little. The roles are reversed. So, why doesn’t Sol get that and pursue this approach with a bit more determination. He is very passive. I am not saying that he should hit Ian over the head with it haha. I am just not as patient as Sol I guess.
