Anyway, my guess would be that he endured so much (on a mental level, since being the bitch of right about ANY Alpha can take its toll on the mind) that he simply had a mental break down. Somthing like Amnesia rather than Alzheimer, would probably be the natural 'protection' the mind chooses in order to protect itself.
That's something that happens a lot with people that had to suffer a big mental and/or physical burden they could not process well.
