Such a nice advice of life, I truly like it, if we're talking about real life and things we shouldn't do. But, that’s over the top to say, it’s literally just fiction. A tragic past doesn’t “excuse” everything, sure, but it does explain why people turn out the way they do. Acting like trauma is just a switch you flip off is naïve as hell. Not everyone comes out of hell singing kumbaya—some people bleed on others because they were cut open themselves, and that complexity is what makes a character interesting.
And your whole “if the author does X then it’s trash writing” take is laughable—like you get to gatekeep what counts as good storytelling? Maybe you just can’t handle morally gray characters and want every story to be kindergarten “bad guy gets punished” level simple. Newsflash: that’s boring. Growth and forgiveness are messy, not checklist punishments you hand out like detention slips.

I’ll also throw back a lesson, you don’t know me nor you don’t know how many fuck up characters I read and I love most of them. You don’t know I love a lot of morally gray characters so that’s kind of bold of you to assume someone through simple words? Kind of funny to be honest. It’s not about gatekeeping, it’s about writing good stories that satisfy readers. You know what kind of story the author is making and they should live through till the end. I read many manhwas where everything started good from beginning till climax then they rushed the ending and made it so bland and boring. Are you one of those who praise these?
Be open-minded that not all stories are all heavenly good and should be praised. If you keep praising then how can an author improve? Criticize aren’t necessary anymore? Should we start treating these authors like babies and say “omg you did a good job no problems keep going!” That’s toxic positivity sorry I don’t talk to those kind of people because it’s weird you praise a story without a single problem in mind. Whatever happened to learning from your flaws, mistakes or failures?
I praise Jaekyung for being an asshole and morally gray but author decided to make him regret his actions so they should stick to that plot by making him regret instead of possibly half-assing it like others did.
Criticize ≠ hate. Before you assume me again that I’m hating, I’m only criticizing for a possible outcome because these patterns are easily too predictable when 95% of manhwa follow the same copy paste story patterns. If the ending is good then it’s good? It’s not a loss for me since I didn’t hate it LOL
I said my piece so have fun reading and praising stories? Continue judging others who you assume can’t handle morally gray characters when you don’t even really know who they really are? Oh and don’t label me as who can’t separate reality and fiction because I can separate them :) have a good day! I hope you don’t assume people so quickly! Bye bye
Remember guys, a tragic past doesn’t give you an excuse to ruin and destory someone’s life. You’re no better than the people who ruined yours. Instead of being so aggressive because your life was so shitty, do the opposite onto others. Who knows, the people who helps you no matter how many times it fails, the platonic and perfect person will find and help you.
If you do the same shitty thing Jaekyung do, miserable and misfortune awaits you more than miracles.
Anyway, I hope author makes the chasing and groveling arc more longer and harsher than BJ Alex. It’s unfair if Dan forgives him just because he loves him like are you shitting me? This will become the most horrible story if author really prove themselves as romanticizing abuse because you’re fucked up make regret and begging more deep, easy forgiveness are for trash writers.
