Can't really tell either tbh. I can't tell if Kiyo-san is smiling (not in a cheeky way but in like a happy parent way) about Nobu offerring to run away together or if Nobu let slip something Kiyo-san couldn't interpret from the multi-lingual conversations at the soapland.
Or perhaps Kiyo-san smiles because he realises they'll go their separate ways. Kiyo-san intends to (and does) run away because he also knows that it's the best time to escape Azami and Tanioka. He also suspects Nobu doesn't truly intend to run away?

At the part where he said dont worry about me and had his head turned and hand up as a way to dismiss, i seen it as kiyo-san was turned away from nobu so it was an expression that nobu didnt see properly and nobu is taller than kiyo-san and you can see that kiyo-san's prior shocked expression from the smiling one has his eyes on the ground so i do not think they were facing one another at that moment.
I am starting to think that there has to be something incorrect with the translation or kiyo-san's cheeky expression is due to being pleased that nobu figured out something he, kiyo-san, already knew. Like the efforts of nobu's learning has been seen in a way.
I love that you commented becuz i feel like this has only been bothering me for years and it was me that did not understand something so tysm
can someone explain to me what expression kiyo-san made that old accountant like he made a cheeky expression after nobu said something like did he trick nobu into telling him info idk if it was a trick or he made that expression becuz nobu gave him useful info?
