That's what i thought too. He might have thought that he's been exchanging letters with Laura, but in reality, it's just her uncle's scheme. Maybe her uncle's the one who's writing or they hired someone to write the fake letters.
i'm not sure either. he did seem overly enthusiastic and friendly with her so i feel like he was receiving letters. plus the shock from the goddaughter makes me think they all believed they were exchanging letters.
so tom price thinks that she's been writing letters to him about their marriage and she's just playing coy? or does he know she's uninterested and he just doesn't care? not that i feel bad for him but the translation was confusing.
