You only see Grayson around Chase because he cares about Chase, in his own way. Even though Chase hates it. But you need to know more about Grayson to understand it.

Koi loves his children, but their relationship is totally messd up, because he couldn't take care of his children himself at some point. The reason is that he almost died because of them, and Ashley was not willing to take any risk of that happening again.
And Ashley is emotionless.
Chase had massive problems with his family because he manifested later than his siblings.
Chase was a sensitive and emotional child, but his siblings (aside form Bliss) never went through that phase.
So they didn't understand or misunderstood Chase, or didn't know how to react to him.
So he felt like an ousider. And was so fed up with his family that he didn't want anything to do with them. And Grayson's way if helping did the rest.
