People change when faced with hardship. Honestly their situation is a perfect example of why you shouldnt marry early and without money. People say hardship makes people grow closer together but thats not true, its overcoming those hardship together. If you dont overcome the hardship and you end up getting stuck in it, youll just end up resenting each other.
I don't think this part of the story is meant to make people feel bad about Mincheol, but mostly to make people understand why Na Haesoo has a hard time moving on from him and why she has a hard time trusting her new relationship. This is how most people are in a toxic relationship, they can never move on cause they're still holding on to that person their lover used to be. I think it's a good thing to add to the story cause now I understand why Haesoo didn't leave him despite him being an ass. She owed so much to him and at some point, he was the only one who truly cared and loved her.

not only that, but haesoo also experienced verbal abuse from him that further exacerbated her view of her own self worth, and under years of living with the current him while also holding onto hope that he'll change and be who he was when she met him... yeah, no wonder she stuck with him even through everything he put her through and struggles with her relationship with taeha
are we meant to feel bad for him or somethin?? all im getting from this is that he actually used to be a decent human being who could love her properly with his whole being, (even tho he was somewhat immature, young and naive); BUT THEN TURNED INTO A TOTAL DICKHEAD??? FOR SOME FUCKIN REASON??? COMPLETE 180???
