omg I do the same for chinese novels....the multitude of name variations kills me. A character can be called one thing by their parents and another by their sibling and another by a childhood friend, which is different from a close friend that they knew for a shorter time....ouf. I find myself pulling my hair when the pet name bears no resemblance to the original name. It reminds me of when I learned that "Dick" is a nickname for "Richard" and I was like "how? why? who?"
It's too much. It makes me miss the simplicity of Japanese name variations in novels and manga
