I dont think they're justifying it. I think they are showing us that he is realizing how much he changed and took her for granted. Its also probably showing us how his own choices led to him becoming resentful of her and he is now regretting everything.

I actually don't understand why the author is focusing SO MUCH on shitheads backstory, like we get that he was nice to her, like, nothing about this would ever justify his horrible treatment of her. I wish they'd focus more on MCs healing and her relationship with our lover boy. Unless we start seeing some actual consequences and accountability from this guy, i don't want to keep seeing his face LOL
