Also I feel like the hate on Helene is mostly due to her personality and her projecting all her misfortunes and taking it out on the MC. When it’s Helen who pushed to keep her there and use her to relieve pressure off their family.
I feel like most of Helen’s issues is her inability to trust others. Given it is all caused by her messed up upbringing, and her brother dipping and leaving the clean up to her doesn’t help.
Also while the dad is free spirited it’s not like he’s freeloading. It’s shown while he does act like that he’s not completely ignorant, and plenty strong to protect his family. His approach to the situation is just different from Helene’s. He just doesn’t micro manage like she does, and isn’t as blatant abut using people like she is. Again that all seems to stem from her not trusting anyone.
It’ll be nice to she her eventually relax and rely on others for a chance. Until then MC has her work cut out for her ╮(￣▽￣)╭
I'm pretty sure the MC is not an ex con, the dead duke bought her so she was probably held as an asset or something, but she wasn't in jail, that's for sure.

Yall hating on Helene proves yall aren't reading imo like you can dislike her and call out her faults but I personally don't get it. Yeah she needs to have a more active role in her children's lives but tbh I cant fault her she's the untitled head of the household with all the responsibilities and not as much of the respect she should have, her husband's a fucking ditz this random bitch WHO WAS JUST IN JAIL popped up and she has to treat her with respect and put her opinions above her own because AGAIN despite her doing all the work she doesn't have the title to match. No one's fucking listening to her (wrong or right opinion doesn't matter theyre still not listening) she's juggling all of this hardly able to see her kids cause she's so busy and then she makes time tries to have a good time with them and walks in on her daughter saying that she wishes the random ex con who now has a better title/position in the house than she does was her mother. Do I wish she spent more time with her kids, yes. But I also get that she logistically CANT with all the shit on her plate. She barely manages to clear her schedule every couple of weeks for them that means she's fucking swamped w work bro.
