I thought of it more like Estelle's death was a political assassination cause she was essentially the leader of their fighting force and kind of the figurehead (Cut off the head and the ret of the body will follow - Estelle being the head and those who fought in her name being the body, which kind of worked in the sense that the country was annexed after her death) and let's not forget that since everyone in her life had completely shielded her from the fact that her own country hated it's govt and that instead of getting rid of actually corrupt nobles, she was getting rid of ppl who were trying to rebel against the corrupt king and in doing so, crippling her country further. The reality is that the common folk and ppl who wanted to get rid of the royal family she supported hated her in life and in death, that's what the entire arc of her going back to the homeland and finding out that she didn't know shit about the condition of her country thing is about - her character dev and us exploring the situation as it was back then and now. Then again, it could be that he probably deluded himself once he learnt about the king's plans and thought that he was saving her and sparing her a miserable death/life being tortured, etc by the enemy forces and thought of it as his final and largest act of love towards her. Then again idk what his motives are, I've either forgotten them/didn't grasp them right.

wow thank you! you helped me understand the situation better. I skipped chapters thats why i remember not understanding anything lol i got impatient. now I get it, also i think i misunderstood his character i thought he would atleast do something to protect her but in his mind I think I understand now that he was being a hero for her and for everyone because she was saying she wanted an honorable death. it's just sad the fl already knew that the king wanted her dead, and then betrayed by someone she trusted the most.

guess thats the difference the 2nd ml and ml has, the ml will for sure protect her life first rather than protect the idea of a bright and positive person not tainted with negativity.

Regarding the visuals, I thought of in 2 ways - 1. I am lowkey tired of seeing gorgeous ML's who treat their partner like trash and then the FL still ends up with them whereas the less good looking SML is a green flag whose efforts and actions are wasted on her. This is kind of like, in Estelle's first life, according to everyone around them, Khalid was probably the one for her (not her tho, gurl is as dense as a rock and had no idea about shit happening in her country, there ain't no way she'd understand that her best friend was in love with her plus she thought of him as family). So he was in essence the trash ML and her 2nd life was his wife chasing arc that failed miserably whereas in her 2nd life, Zed was the potential SML from the 1st life turned green flag ML in her 2nd life. 2. I also took it like his looks don't matter to her cause it's his personality and his soul that she felt intrigued by, understood by and fell in love with.
However, having said all that, this Khalid is so annoyingly good looking (which is the trend now amongst villain characters) that when I look at him, I'm like thank god he doesn't have them ocean eyes/blue eyes of any sort cause I'd probably end up projecting Gojo and Phainon onto him and defend his actions in his 1st life.
