Sol sees Ian as Ian, he's fond of the memories of Brian but separates them. The Caedinal does not, he sees Ian as Brian and Brian as his pet.

I'd like to disagree. He does not separate the two. ahe has always seen Ian as Brian as we all have read in the very first chapters. However, he does not enforce Brian and his memories on Ian. He allows him to be whoever he is in this life without pressuring him to remember unlike Lorkan who only wants to own him.

Isn't that seeing him as separate? The soul might be the same but the memories are what makes the person, if he's not imposing memories on him then he cares about Ian as himself not just as an extension of Brian.
