One passed away from the long years of being with each other, seeing each others versions and learning/exploring new things with every moment they spent together. And one slowly drifted away, the gust of wind blown him away, never to seen again by anyone but to be remembered by the people he met during his last decades and the person he truly loved. The house served as the placeholder for memories that took place in that very house, intimate but warm memories.
The Yokai that was once lonely has found and his purpose and lived till the day he disappeared from the face of the earth, his soul now resting in eternity with his beloved human.
