Nain doesn't choose between Amon and Gwen and he's still a partner to Amon and a lover to Gwen. Gwen and Amon hate each other but know that they can't get rid of each other because that would ruin Nain's fragile mental stability and so they pretend the other doesn't exist during situations where they're forced together.
