My theory is, they're supposed to be lovers. Then something probably happened to the girl's family. She was married off to some man hidden away and was reported dead. Or she offed herself sometime after the mc was abandoned. The husband seemed abusive and she had postpartum depression.
Or he could be the brother of the bio mom. And she already passed away for a long time, that's why he said he's the only one left.
