Ian is incapable of self reflection that doesn't revolve around him being the victim or martyr in some way.
It's hard to root for a guy who literally didn't visit the woman he apparently loves in prison and has made everything -- including her suffering -- about him and his needs. And now the first thing he wants is for MADELYN to reassure HIM.
im only on chapter 48 so i dont totally know what youre talking about, but i agree with this mostly (i dont agree fully rn bc all i see is him hesitating and being a ptsd ridden soldier, but maybe my mind will change after 23 chapters)
