During those times an early engagement/marriage was normal. It was mostly for political reasons and so the families entered an early accord and so the kids would get engaged and get married once they were of age.
But what if they changed their mind when they get all grown up ?
It's not really about changing your mind since these marriages were set up by the parents for political and monetary gain, not for the feelings of their children
