Following this thread because I love how creative the replies are.
Well it's not exactly a small little trauma is it he literally watched her be tortured and saw how hellish her life was. And this is him just confronting his feelings while face to face with the subject of trauma, who has been strong for so long. His last line about how he wishes to talk to her about this kinda makes it clear too that the guilt or this truth is eating him up inside. Also let's not forget that he literally tried to khs just previously, mans clearly not in the right head space even now.

The ones you saw and the ones you learned from the people who surrounded her. Who wouldn't crumble to that? It'll break you to pieces every time you remember it. And Carcel had to remember those every time there's a trigger — whenever he learns something new, every time a small portion of his memory comes back to him, every time he sees his wife.
