He loves her so deeply

When it comes to Ines, Carcel’s heart is always deeply affected. Generally, Carcel is a man who is all about duty. From a young age, he was taught to not get attached to his father because he is the heir so when his father dies, he will be the one to take responsibility for the family. Due to this, Carcel is a dutiful son to his father but is not easily affected by the things that happen to his father.

With his mother and brother, Carcel is a dutiful son and older brother. His heart is softer towards his mother but he’s still not as affectionate with her as he could be. I think it’s because of an incident that occurred in his childhood that will be revealed later where he probably felt he needed to act mature and endure for his mother. He also takes care of his brother but there are some parts of it that comes across as duty.

When it comes to himself, Carcel most often ignores his pain, physical or emotional. The physical part is something that Ines has already expressed alarm about. Examples of his callous neglect of pain are when he intentionally slammed his hand against the balcony rails to punish himself at the admiral banquet, when he got grazed by the bullet and was bleeding out like it wasn’t a big deal, when he slammed his head against the ground in Bilbao, etc. Dr. Maso even said during war he got shot and was up and fighting again by the next day. Carcel is numb to pain when it comes to himself for a reason. It will be revealed later in the story. He pays little regard to his own injuries and feelings.

HOWEVER, when it comes to Ines, Carcel is very emotional. How could he not be after finding out how much HIS BELOVED WIFE has endured? One thing Ines always complained to him about is the way he would always call her small and delicate when she’s taller and stronger than most women in Ortega but not to Carcel. He loves her and treats her preciously since the day she became his wife.

Carcel remembers all the horrid things that Oscar used to tell him about Ines even calling her a whore or ‘no more than a night at a brothel’ thus equating her to a prostitute…so then how could his heart not hurt? He knows and can imagine the hell she went through. He loves her preciously and treats her preciously because that’s what she means to him. Then to know that PROUD and precious person was trampled on, degraded and tormented for years must hurt him so deeply. He didn’t even know why but he always disliked the way she was nonchalant about BJ. He’s not a selfish lover so he always hated this one-sided act. Now he connects the BJ and her nonchalance to Oscar and he’s exactly right because Ines’s POV already revealed how Oscar would force her to give him a BJ after he just came back from the brothel after visiting male and female prostitutes. That’s the manhwa chapter where she bit his private part and made him bleed. Carcel now understands the things she had to endure and his heart rightly breaks for her.

So, while Carcel is not generally an emotional man with ALL the other characters, he is very much in tune with his emotions when it comes to Ines because he deeply loves and adores her and the only other people he would probably treat like that are his children.
