What she did was wrong and not something to be forgiven and forgotten easily. But she’s also a product of abuse and became a child bride to a cheating piece of shit who left all his debts to her and her child. The point of the story is to show the effects Lydia did to her daughter as well as her effort to fix it. NO ONE IS EXCUSING HER ACTIONS. It’s like saying a person can never grow for the better and heal because of their past mistakes. Someone who genuinely repent is better than nothing at all.
