Im the same as you but I think maybe wait to read the romance part first before you drop. Im not the novel reader but i think if they write a good romance like it's not too fucus on it or not too force or anything. I think maybe i will enjoy it.

simply bc varia doesn't love duke first. romance is the least thing she thought, survival is top priority. so the duke fell first and harder. varia opens up bc leonia is duke's wingman (leonia gives duke muscle book to varia). the first scene of their meeting is absolute comedy. varia stripping, duke intense wanting to look away but watching her at the same time and leonia climbing the balcony to peek the original MCs varia just want to handover the documents she tied to her inner shirt. romance isn't the main focus despite varia appearance though, the novel details varia and leonia relationship too. and leonia and duke falling for varia's innocent (before the two tainted her - leonia with her muscle book and duke with his flirting and sexual advances).
