My theory is that the author is intentionally making him look uglier, hoping he’ll lose a lot of fans. That way, because she chosed Ian and Jo as the endgame, people won’t feel as disappointed or angry, and they’ll be less likely to hate the ending.

You just read a well written, literary explanation as to why the character's appearance is becoming less appealing and you think the author is just trying to throw cold water on some horndog fans? That's low-key insulting to the author. This story is well written but people don't want to read anymore. Making him uglier isn't going to fix that imo. Trying to connect their artistic choices to crazy fans don't make sense to me
This actually makes sense. In PASSION, we see the second ml as a Twink because that's how the mc sees him (he wanted to top him), but sling the story, when the mc falls for someone else, the second ml just transforms into someone else (he always looked like that)

I have a theory : we see him the way ian see him. And the more he get to see the ugly sides of TJ, the more he losses his attraction to him
So TJ get uglier as Ian discover his true face, and slowly detaches himself
