Backstory is important for us to get some context and understand the plot of a story, most books have that. So not sure why are you guys hating on their past so much. I agree with this. It's just an explanation, not an excuse. It's sad he went through that. I believe he developed Antisocial Personality Disorder with OCD and Anxious attachment disorder. Doesn't make anything okay, but that's just what I'm guessing.
ASPD: because he literally has no empathy for other people, is impulsive and pretty much a psychopath.
OCD: because he wishes to control everything around him, including Samyeong and loses it whenever something goes wrong.
Anxious Attachment: he becomes so afraid and is very codependent emotionally and mentally on Samyeong to the point where it fuels all the other disorders.
Again, doesn't make anything he is doing okay. It's fucked up. His childhood is fucked up. It's sad that the cycle of abuse continues.
This is a dark romance, so anybody screaming and foaming from mouth should understand that dark romances aren't pretty. They're full of abuse, gaslighting, manipulation, coercion etc. Sick Yandares.
I normally don't read any dark romances, they really disturb me. But I think the reason I am reading this one is because the king is toxic simping. He doesn't beat up Samyeong and is ready to kill for him. It makes it a little palatable. He doesn't sell or let anybody touch him.
Obviously, his sexual abuse isn't okay, but it's harder for me when, for example, the yandare shoots or beats up their "lover."
I'd also like to add that in interested to see who the "antagonist" will be for them. What's up with the brows.
