It would totally depend on how old the vampire looks. For sure I would like the human to be turned at a perfect time, so that they would look close in age. It would be awful if they were mistaken for being a parent or grandparent...
I think that avg time to get married is a good direction for the dating period, because they ARE deciding if they want to spend their lives together.
That said, the process of choosing the perfect ages can be fun! They can even have dilemmas and conversations about it and plan the ideal age for transformation ^^ If the vampire looks 20-ish, then I guess they wouldn't have that much time to date, unless they're ok with a visible up to 5y age gap, so it could be fun to see the younger one look older ;) If the vampire looks 25-ish to 30, then there's already room for an age gap nobody will mind, and they can decide if they want to look similar in age or if they want one of them to look older and who. If the vampire is 40-ish and up, then they have a lot of time to date, decide and so on.

ohhhh this is all so true thank u for ur thoughtful answer! i think the vampire looks like he’s his 20s vaguely (and same for the human) so not so much time.. much to think about ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
the human has vampire hunter family members too and idk what to do about it because even if they come around to the vampire thing idk if they’d willingly get turned too.. many things to think about. vampires are so cool but its so hard to not make it sad lol

oh my, I'm getting so many ideas ^^
I think that the vampire would have to be somehow "different from the other vampires" for the family to accept him. But for the family to believe that he is truly different is a whole other story, because they will have ingrained in them that vampire = bad and must be exterminated. They will have thoughts like: are you sure he's different, how do you know if he's not lying to you, vampires are tricksters they will seduce you with sweet words to use you, even if he's different how do you know he will not change later. There's so much to work with! ^^ About the family changing into vampires, I don't think that's a good idea, they would probably feel repulsed just by the idea ;) It's pretty normal for children to go their own way and leave home, so it would probably be the best solution here too. The MC is willing to overcome the upbringing of a vampire hunter only because of great love, but the family will not have such a strong feeling and reason to change into vampires themselves.
Going back to the ages, if you make the vampire to look like he's in his late 20s and MC in early 20s, then we get a good few years to date, get to know each other, work on convincing the family. This could be a good setting for the vampire to at first be kind of like an older brother, MC being hasty at first to become a vampire because of true love, but the vampire wanting to wait a few years, we have time, don't be hasty, think things through, what if your feelings change. Then the MC would decide, that if that's how it is, then I will become your food in the meantime. With time the MC will see how much the vampire's life is easier with a stable food source, so MC would want to delay the turning to be the food for just a little longer. The family could find out about the vampire feeding on MC and raise hell with "I told you so" and "he's not different from the others after all, let's kill it".
Maybe at the end, the couple will become official allies of the vampire hunters, the only officially recognised vampires to not be harmful to humans ^^

wahhhhh so much to think about!!! truthfully the human mc isnt a hunter himself, just his older sisters. i think it would be super unlikely that they would ever willingly be turned, but its a source of turmoil for all of them because they’re Suuuuper close… i don’t want them to age away from the human mc but like. its not like the other option is any more realistic.. they could be unwillingly turned but god thats too evil ╥﹏╥ i know its rational for siblings especially to grow apart but they have a unique deep bond so its not so easy for me lol. they definitely think the vampire is manipulating the mc, i have no idea how to overcome that lol.
i stg tho i have this problem any time immortality is involved (/TДT)/
i agree on the ages issue i think it would be good to give them 4-5 years to age into being close in age visibly. i know a lot of people want to be proposed to within 1-3 years but i always thought that was a bit too short of a time period for such a commitment lmao. and a commitment like “live with me forever” is heavy even moreso than marriage.
thank you again for your thoughtful reply ⁄(⁄ ⁄·⁄ω⁄·⁄ ⁄)⁄

There are a few options to convince the family. They can have an honest conversation, but that would probably only help a bit and the family would be still like “we will see, I got my eye on you”. There could be some danger and the vampire could protect or save MC. Even better if it would involve other vampires, some long time friend or enemy of the ML. A typical “actions speak louder than words” ;) There can also be a situation where the family refused the help of the vampire because of trust issues, and because of that the MC got seriously hurt and the only option to save him would be to turn him into a vampire. The last one is drastic, but also an option to consider.

omg u replied so fast i posted and went to sleep immediately sorry ╥﹏╥
this is all very true, maybe it would be fun if the vampire had a detested ex (more of a previous fling really) that got involved somehow. something scary (strange vampire) that only the ML can diffuse (because what can vampire hunters do if their brother is hostage?) and maybe there can be some ex fling awkwardness too, that sounds pretty funny (≧∀≦) but protecting the MC might help sway his family yes… maybe at the very least enough to accept him barely. this is a very good direction to think about thank you again ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
ok so question for you guys. say youre reading a vampire x human story. how long do you think is an appropriate amount of time dating before the vampire turns the human and they live together forever? like considering they want to stop aging sooner than later so they don’t look like they have a big gap. in the human’s position how long would you wait to accept that kind of commitment?
im trying to write this kind of story and i think the human delays getting turned for a bit because he wants to be a food source for his lover for a little longer, but like. its not like i want him to get old and die lol. idk if like average time to wait until marriage is enough lol
