Soobin doesn't seem like an unreliable narrator. I don't remember this flashback but she probably hung herself after she failed to take her kids with her. Whatever she fed them, it was at the very least bad enough for Sei to need a medical intervention
I don't think she'd try to kill her kids coz it was shown in a flashback that she hung herself
